Your story deserves more than just documentation— it deserves art.

No one has been more dedicated to redefining what wedding photography and cinematography can be in New Mexico and the Southwest than Shutterfreek. For over a decade, we’ve photographed and filmed weddings that go beyond poses and timelines — transforming them into immersive visual stories that feel alive, honest, and uniquely yours.

Our goal is always simple. To craft a photo and film experience that moves you, inspires you, and lasts forever.

Some call these Elopements but they're not.  These events are for couples who can't imagine getting married without their closest family & friends present, but don't feel the need to host an extravagant dinner & reception for hundreds of guests. All packages include location scouting, event planning, timeline design, vendor recommendations, off-grid glamping prep, and permit assistance when needed.

We grew up shooting analog—and we still love it. At every event, we capture at least one roll of 35mm film, a pack of Polaroids, a pack of Instax, and sometimes a few Lomo's. Because honestly, nothing beats the feels from film.

Style & Delivery

First and foremost we are story tellers.  Over time we've realized that we not only have a knack for taking quality photographs, but we also a natural talent to connect with people in ways that allow them to feel comfortable and natural. We work extremely hard to get to the most picturesque locations & vantage points possible so that each photo becomes a literal piece of art.

While our editing style continues to evolve and refine, we prefer to emulate more of a film look.  We lean toward warmer, light grain, deep, moody film tones without compromising natural looking skin or skewing natural colors too far from what makes them beautiful in reality. We avoid fleeting editing trends and stick to  producing clean images that will stand the test of time and look as good 50 years now as they do today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions ✷

FAQS

  • We aim to deliver a small batch of highlight images within 48 hours of your wedding — a quick glimpse into the magic of your day.

Full photo galleries are typically delivered within 6–12 weeks, depending on the season. (Fall and winter weddings may take a bit longer since they’re our busiest editing months.)

Highlight films follow a similar timeline, while complete video collections are generally delivered within 6–10 months, depending on our production queue.

We intentionally pace our edits to protect creativity and avoid burnout — ensuring every story receives the attention, emotion, and artistry it deserves. When it’s your turn, you get our freshest eyes, fullest heart, and most inspired work — exactly how your story should be told.

  • We do detailed touch ups on every event with the top 100-200 "framable" images.

However, if something isn't going to be gone a month from now we're not going to remove it, slim it, reduce it or augment it.  We encourage people to be comfortable in their own skin no matter what.  Will we slim a double chin that's looks unflattering in a hysterical laughing shot that we know you'll love....sure!  Will we remove skin blemishes....yes!  We'll even do some minor slimming on the serious keepers.  But we not make someone look like something they are not in real life.  Even as photoshop gurus, there's a point where it can do more damage than it does good.

We will ALWAYS make sure you look your very best.  That you can count on!

  • We always start booking dates typically a year in advance. We are typically booked for the year by January/February of that year. If you feel a connection with our style and our approach to telling wedding stories, we should chat sooner than later! But you never know. Never hurts in inquire.

  • Although we don't claim to be fashion stylists, we do try to keep our Pinterest boards up to date with what we think are the cutest, most current wardrobe combinations. We alway recommend that our clients create a idea board for their session. It’s a great way to bounce ideas off of us, and to make sure we’re on the same page going into the shoot!

  • If you know you're getting married in a year or less, the best time to do your engagement session is now! Not only will it help you be ahead of the game with announcements and such, but it will also give you some marketing power for your big day to keep your social feeds poppin'!

  • Usually, we say yes. Seeing each other before the ceremony doesn’t take away from the magic of walking down the aisle—it just helps you relax and be fully present.A first look gives us time to capture portraits early, so you can spend more of your day celebrating with guests instead of posing for photos. Plus, those private first look moments? Always unforgettable. Highly recommend.

  • If it's for a large Wedding....FREEK YES!  We highly recommend having a planner, coordinator, or designer that can help you do what you would never be able to do on your own. Despite our best efforts, stress shows in photos. The least amount of stress you have going into your wedding day, the better. A rock star wedding coordinator can take so much off your plate, and can keep the pace, flow, and style of your wedding in check. Let us help make recommendations of the best ones in the biz!

  • Yes! Our premium photobooth is the Mercedes of photobooth’s. It’s extremely mobile, works in all environments, prints unlimited beautiful 4X6 images and saves all the digital negatives which we edit and provide as part of your final image collection.

  • Most of the weddings we do these days are destination weddings in locations that require us to travel. There may or may not be an additional fee, depending on the package, location, and scenario. In other words, if it's in our best interest for portfolio purposes to offset the travel costs, we're more than willing to do it. Generally speaking, we do not charge additional travel fees to locations within a 90 mile radius of Farmington, NM.

  • Of course! We are not a one size fits all company, and although we have tried to put together what we feel are perfect varying levels of coverage, we quite often will custom tweak a package to fit specific coverage or budget needs. The best first step is to let us know exactly what you want!

  • We are booking weddings at least a year in advance and recommend that if you're getting married anytime between June and October, to consider booking sooner than later. We are close to being completely booked for the following year by November - December.

  • The best time to have your ceremony depends entirely on much time you will need for photos before dinner. If you are not planning on having a first look, you will need at a minimum of 1 hour for all family, wedding party, and formal photos after the ceremony. In that scenario we are racing to get everything covered before you check in to the reception. There are pro and cons to first looks, but they alway afford more time for photos, and an earlier check in to your reception. If possible, we ALWAYS try to sneak the couple out just after they eat for some gorgeous golden hour shots.

  • A 25% deposit is required to reserve a date on our calendar. Deposits are non-refundable. If for any reason you need to cancel your wedding, or reschedule for a date that we do not have available, if we have done your engagement photos as part of your package, you will be charged for that session on top of the deposit.

  • We can hire as many shooters as you'd like for your Wedding but the reality is we've got it covered.  Over a decade or testing second shooters and we've come to the conclusion that we do a better job covering your event together than we do with more hands in the cookie jar.  If you've booked with a package that included 2 people, it is always just Katie and I.

  • We try to! Drone footage is the coolest. It really will depend on time opportunity and weather, but we generally always try to get some drone footage. If you are willing or want us to fly a drone during your ceremony…we’re all about it!

  • Yes! This happens more than you would think. Weddings are an expensive investment and sometimes it takes time to figure out exactly what your budget is for photography & video. If you know you want to work with us, it is smart to book your date and then decide soon after exactly what type of coverage your want.
